Grandpa:
Wow...what a fast month and eventful month. Cora's (Grandma Cora) death took us to Phoenix sooner than we anticipated. It was a wonderful experience to see how everyone come together to celebrate her life. I was humbled by how many of the grandchildren from both sides of the family came. It showed to me just how much she meant to all of us. She was a great example of love and acceptance. To the Romney grandchildren, she is the only grandmother they new. I was touched at Jeff Kober's remarks at the funeral learning about how close the Kober's and Romney's were before my Dad married Cora. Jeff mentioned that he noticed how sad that his parents felt coming home from a funeral of a close friend, my mother. Also when he was preparing for his mission, at the temple Jeff's father introduced him to my father who was his temple escort. Jeff realized later that he just met his future step father. I could go on, but I just want to say how grateful I am for my family heritage. What an example of devotion and service. I had the privilege of having to wonderful mother's in my life. Both of whom I will remember for ever.
Love, DAD
Grandma:
The summer is flying by so quickly—Monday, the 11th, school starts again at the prison. July will always be remembered as the month we lost Grandma Cora, but Dad will write about that.
We spent the Fourth of July in Cedar City. We drove down that morning and caught the afternoon matinee of “Fiddler On the Roof,” the best performance of that I have ever seen. Then that night we saw “Othello.” It was excellent. We drove home Saturday morning and met Norman and Marie that evening for dinner and a play at Hale Theater—“The Curious Savage.” We saw it many years ago and it stands out in our minds as the funniest play we have ever seen and it didn’t disappoint us this time. Even Norman enjoyed it and he’s not a theater guy. They were in town for something with Marie’s family.
We think we have the Logan house sold but the buyer is an investor so he’s being very picky and technical about everything. We are presently waiting for Logan City to officially grandfather it as a legal duplex. Once that is done, which the realtor thinks will be no problem, we are to close within 48 hours. Thanks to Joe and Amy and their excellent care of the property, it has been a good deal for all of us. We just don’t dare keep it once they are gone.
Last weekend we enjoyed a very fun family campout organized by Amy. We went to a beautiful place near Preston, Idaho. There was a beautiful creek that ran right by our camp ground (in fact we had to walk across a plank that spanned the creek in order to reach our camping area). We took the dogs along with Xander and all had a good time. You’ve never seen dirtier dogs!!! Just wish the North Carolina family could have been with us. We are certainly grateful for the progress out little Parker has made. We love you all! Mom and Dad, Grandma and Grandpa
